The evening began with kagami biraki, a traditional ceremony where the lid of a sake barrel is broken to signify welcome and good luck.

Guests filled the Heritage Ballroom at The Governor Hotel, which was packed with restaurants, sake sampling stations, and a live band.

Saké producers are exploring creative packaging, too. Servers were sampling new cartons of Hakushika Tanuki Saké, a junmai saké brewed with select domestically-produced rice and "miyamizu", Nishinomiya's famous water known as one of the best waters in Jap

Guests enjoyed samples of over 100 different varieties of saké (including plum wine and beer) including many rare and premium bottles.

Rogue Brewing was on hand pouring samples of their Asian inspired ales including the White Crane Bitter Ale, Buckwheat Ale, Red Fox Amber Ale, and Morimoto Imperial Pilsner.

The silent auction was filled with an array of Asian artifacts and art pieces. Proceeds were donated to the Japan-America Society of Oregon.

Over 500 guests gathered in the Heritage Ballroom at the The Governor Hotel on June 27 at Saké Fest PDX to sip and sample traditional (and non-traditional) Japanese delights including over 100 different rare and premium varieties of saké and small bites from 14 area restaurants.
