Anyone who's had the pleasure of tucking into a heaping plate of aebleskiver pancakes or Swedish meatballs at Southeast Clinton's landmark brunch hub Broder knows the cozy space is prone to wait times up to two hours long. While a spot at the table or at a stool looking into the colorful open kitchen is well worth a bit of patience, it's more than a little refreshing to see Broder Nord, the restaurant's new North Portland location, comes with room to spread out and order up a feast from the fjords. The 94-seat restaurant combines the original space's Swedish-chic decor—think pine cone-shaped light fixtures, bright white subway tiles, and colorful Nordic tchotchkes—with Jenga-like wooden structures, a full bar lined with bright yellow stools, and tall windows fit for drinking in a dreamy view of the Fremont Bridge. The current menu mirrors Southeast's brunch and lunch options, but watch out for the debut of a seafood-centric dinner service in the coming weeks.
