Taqueria Nueve Sets Opening Date

Portland's beloved Mexican restaurant will debut in mere days—so kickstart your cravings, it's wild boar taco time.

Get ready Portland: chef Billy Schumaker's beloved Taqueria Nueve will officially open its doors on Thursday, January 23.

As previously reported on Eat Beat, the reincarnation of Schumaker's NE 28th Mexican eatery (which closed to the horror of regulars in 2008) will occupy the former Beaker & Flask space on SE Washington. Expect favorites from the original menu—steak del nueve, Caesar salads, wild boar tacos, lime-doused ceviche, lengua tacos, and cochinita pibil—alongside a few newbies, like vegetarian tacos, fresh salads, and updated Oaxacan mole negro tamales available seven days a week.

As for the interior, gone are Beaker's round booths and subtle colors—the former have a new home at Clackamas' Pronto Pizza, and the latter have been transformed with hues that will certainly wake up the space. Stay tuned for photos of the livened-up bar and dining room!

Continuing the tradition established by his first time around, Schumaker and business partner Brent Richford promise the new T9 will offer sustainably sourced ingredients and fresh takes on regional flavors from Mexico.

We're just happy they're back—fresh-squeezed margaritas, anyone?
