New Bar Prettyman's General Gets Pretty on Hawthorne
An adorable new bar, bottle shop, and market is now open on SE Hawthorne, specializing in specialty beer, wine, and seasonal drinking food.
Prettyman's General, a high-design bar with an oh-so-welcoming vibe and a tiny but tasty menu, makes the most of unique vintage finds and modern fixtures, taking its name from Portland pioneer Perry Prettyman, the man responsible for paving the road from his house on upper Hawthorne to the Willamette River—the path that would eventually become Hawthorne Blvd.
The major draw of this sweet space? A handful of cozy corners tailor-made for a casual date, game night with friends, working on your short story, or lounging with a copy of the latest Kinfolk issue. It's like your best friend's house, if your best friend were Nathan Williams and had a kitchen stocked with Pacific Pie Co. pasties, smoked steelhead from Flying Fish, Olympic Provisions Sweetheart ham sandwiches, and a farmers market worth of seasonal veggies.
The neighborhood bar is open from 11 am to 11 pm seven days a week. Check out our slide show or head in for yourself to check out the space, order a pint and a salad, and stay a while.
