Portland Cocktail Week

Most of Portland Cocktail Week (Oct. 18-24) will be devoted to industry types, but casual drinkers can get a piece of the action at these events:

The Bacardi Bar Challenge ($20)
What: Four teams of bartenders will build their Top Chef-style dream bar for a day.
Where: Left Bank Annex
When: Thursday, 10/23, 6-8 pm. Tickets and details.
United States Bartender's Guild Showcase ($20)
What: One member from each of the 50+ USBG chapters will represent their state with one signature cocktail and a region-appropriate bar design. Basically it's Miss America for bartenders.

Alberta Food Carts’ Annual Pumpkin Party

What:  The food carts of 23rd and Alberta are hosting an annual celebration of fall’s favorite ingredient—pumpkin! Each cart will be offering specials featuring pumpkin, so bring an appetite if you want to try every one. Expect live music, fire pits, and plenty of fun.
When: Saturday, October 25, 1-7 pm

James Beard Public Market Benefit Dinner At Ataula 

What: An envy-inducing selection of Portland's top chefs (Jose Chesa of Ataula, Patrick McKee of Paley's Place, Anthony Cafiero of Racion, BJ Smith of Smokehouse 21, Earl Ninsom of Langbaan, and Kristen Murray of Maurice) will collaborate for a sumptuous 6-course meal at Ataula, highlighting fall ingredients and raising proceeds for the James Beard Public Market.  
When: October 26, 6 pm
Where: Ataula, 1818 NW 23rd Place
How Much: $175 per person including the 6 course meal with all pairings. Details and tickets.

Food Luminary Dinner at OMSI

What: This month's OMSI Luminary dinner brings together chef Anthony Cafiero of Racion and chef Chris Carriker of 23 Hoyt to create a collaborative meal that explores the the science of food. This four-course meal will be accompanied by food science demonstrations and the menu is set to include Iberico pork with apple cider tapioca pearls and smoked apple gel.
When: October 27, 6-9 pm
Where: OMSI, 1945 SE Water Ave. 
How Much: $60 per person including dinner and gratuity. Reservations required.

The Art of Gascon Butchery Demo and Dinner

What: Gascon butcher Dominique Chapolard and French cooking teacher Kate Hill—the mentors of Portland Meat Collective's Camas Davis—are coming to Portland for a blow-out charcuterie extravaganza (along with Jason French of Ned Ludd and Elder Hall). The evening will include a pig butchery demo and will culminate in an luxurious four-course meal with French wine parings. Only 30 spots available, so get your tickets while you can!

Día De Los Muertos Festival De Cervezas

What: A new beer festival celebrating All Souls Day, co-hosted by Bazi Bierbrasserie and Imperial Bottleshop. The festival will take place at both locations simultaneously, so visitors can saunter between the two to taste festively named, death-themed, Mexican-influenced beers that pay homage to the dead and to the holiday’s origin. Bazi’s beers are Belgian-inspired while Imperial’s are local American craft beers. The beer lineup includes Burnside Dapper Skeleton, Breakside Bourbon Aztec, and Alameda Zombie Blood.
When: Saturday, November 1, 4-10 pm

4th Annual Vegan Dinner at Departure

What: For his annual vegan and gluten-free feast, chef Gregory Gourdet will partner with Groundworks Organics for a six-course, asian influenced meal that will delight diners of all dietary persuasions. Dishes will include mushroom and onion tarts with rosemary, sweet potatoes with dried chili and chocolate, and persimmon and berry cheese cake.
When: Thursday, November 6 at 7 pm
Where: Departure Restaurant + Lounge, 525 SW Morrison St.
