How to Fix the Rose Quarter’s Traffic Problem

Yes, the traffic nightmare around the Rose Quarter continues. Last winter the city and state unveiled the latest multibillion-dollar plan to widen Interstate 5, rework off-ramps, and introduce other measures to relieve the area’s notorious bottlenecks. Some wonks think it just might work; other wonks think it will encourage more drivers to clog the freeways. And all of this is part of a decades-long desire to reimagine the whole area, which has been plagued by inequities and discrimination, pedestrian-unfriendly streets, and all-around ugliness.

Don’t worry. We have some better ideas....
