With gorgeous scenery, handcrafted beers and ciders, unique boutiques, outstanding restaurants, and accommodations, Hood River is a soulful retreat that lets you recharge and reconnect with family and friends. Here are some of the best ways to enjoy the region’s slower side:

Get your turns. Or, read a page-turner.

In less than an hour you can be hopping on a chairlift at Mt. Hood Meadows or Cooper Spur Mountain Resort. Mt. Hood Meadows has 1,700 vertical feet of terrain for skiers and boarders of all levels, as well as groomed Nordic trails, while family-friendly Cooper Spur Resort offers tubing and beginner-friendly lift-accessed slopes. Additional nearby sledding options include Little John Sno Park and White River Sno Park.

Whether planning a personal retreat, a girls’ getaway or a family vacation, Hood River is a great place to unwind. From bookstores to galleries to museums, it offers an eclectic mix of indoor as well as outdoor wintertime activities.

Spin your wheels. Or kick up your heels.

With numerous coffee shops, breakfast spots and take-and-go lunch offerings, Hood River is an excellent basecamp for avid cyclists any time of year. During the winter months, it’s the ideal launching point for some of the drier, sunnier routes in the eastern Gorge. Plus, there are plenty of indoor activities – from yoga classes to swimming to settling in with a good book and cup of tea.

From riverside balconies to hotels and BnBs with double mountain views, Hood River’s accommodations range from luxurious to laid-back. Whether you intend to snuggle in by the fire at one of numerous vacation rentals, or take in the beautiful views from one of several waterfront hotels, Hood River has abundant options of cozy places to relax.

Go solo. Or bring the whole family.

Need a personal retreat? Take a walk along the Hood River waterfront trail, stop and play at Waterfront Park, then warm up at one of many nearby restaurants. Catch a movie, swim in the town’s indoor heated pool, or take a ski or boarding lessons at Mt. Hood Meadows.

And now-through April 2017, Mt. Hood Meadows, Hood River County Chamber of Commerce and local lodging partners are offering the Ski Hood deal. Stay with a participating Hood River lodging partner and access deep discounts of lift tickets and lesson packages — plus, there are no blackout or restricted dates.

Explore downtown. Or explore new perspectives.

The boutiques, shops, restaurants, galleries, and outfitters that comprise Hood River’s downtown businesses dispense some of the best local’s only knowledge you can find. Head downtown for a gallery opening, to sip wine with a friend, or to find the perfect jacket for your next adventure, and take a few extra minutes next time you wander Oak or Cascade to read the historic placards on display outside of the town’s first buildings.

And finally, expand your horizons at some of the area’s arts and cultural offerings. Kids and grown-ups alike will love the fantastic Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum (WAAAM) – one of the largest collections of still-flying antique airplanes and still-driving antique automobiles in the country. Check out the Columbia Center for the Arts to see the latest local art installation, play, lecture or film. Not to be missed, the Big ART Walking Tour is a 2.65-mile art walk featuring 15 public art installations. And this year, the entire Month of February is designated Hood River Music Month, where venues from wineries to theaters will be hosting  music events.

Go ahead—find yourself in Hood River.
