Next time you visit Lincoln City make sure to check out the Exploriences. Exploriences are just that, a series of free, hands-on experiences led by local experts that allow you to get out and explore Lincoln City. Adventure awaits with beach-combing, tide pooling, crabbing, clamming, bird watching, and hiking. Add some local knowledge to the souvenirs you bring home from Lincoln City.

It all kicks off this January with Beach-combing Exploriences, sponsored by Rock Your World: Pacific NW Gem & Jewelry Gallery. The treasure hunt begins with an orientation by a local expert, followed by a guided exploration of the beach. Your guide will help you find and identify coastal treasures such as agates, fossils, shells, and minerals, and explain the unique coastal geology along the way. During your exploration, you might even be lucky enough to find a signature glass float, part of Finders Keepers.

Beginning in April, you can join in on the Tidepool Exploriences, which take place on the beach at the NW 15th Street beach access. Join local experts from Hatfield Marine Science Center and learn all about the fascinating creatures that live in the coast’s rocky intertidal pools. Your guides will take you on a tide pool tour to identify and explore marine life such as sea stars, anemones, urchins, and other colorful creatures.

Later in the year, you’ll be able to enjoy the bounty of Siletz Bay through Clamming and Crabbing Exploriences. Before heading out to the shoreline, you’ll learn about Oregon’s crabbing and clamming regulations, harvest methods, identification, cleaning, and cooking techniques. Then you'll hit the sand and try it for yourself. Cast a line from the shore of Siletz Bay and explore the mudflats at low tide to see what you can catch for dinner.

When you learn about Lincoln City through the Exploriences, not only do you become the expert, but you also have a chance to win. Sign up for the digital passport or collect game pieces from the local experts. When you complete five different Explorience programs, you are eligible to become a member of the Explorers Club where you’ll be entered to win great prizes. And when you’re a member of the Explorers Club, you’re a member for the life of the program.

All of the Exploriences are great family-friendly experiences, date ideas, or simply a day where you can learn something new on your own. Exploriences last approximately one to two hours and are completely free. No registration is required.
