Presented by Oregon Adventure Coast March 8, 2022

Winter is over and we’ve all been couped up for more than just 3 months, but two years.  Friends have done their best to stay in touch during the long pandemic, but it hasn’t been the same.  It’s time for you to text your best girlfriends and plan a trip together that reconnects you with those who know you better than anyone else. You are all thinking it, maybe even talking about it, and waiting for the right time.  Well, take the lead, you know every one of them is going to sign on.

And to make it extra special, go someplace different; not the same old northern coastal destinations.  Instead, head to Oregon’s Adventure Coast where Portlanders are discovering a really unique mixture of nature, culture, excitement, and relaxation. It's quickly becoming known as a destination that is turbocharged and Zen-inspired!

Here are some exciting and unique activities for those ready to hit the road.

RIDE THE OREGON DUNES

The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is a favorite among adventure seekers and it is no wonder! This natural wonder stretches for 40 miles along the Oregon Coast and terminates in North Bend.  The dunes are like no other in the world and are very popular with sports enthusiasts who enjoy taking on the challenge in an ATV or Dune Buggy. There are plenty of outfitters you can rent from or take the Follow Me Tour with Spinreel ATV & Dune Buggy.

The opportunities are endless, and there is something for everyone in your crew.  If you are wondering what you might do, start here: Oregon’s Adventure Coast website’s Adventure section.  If you want more inspiration, visit the Girlfriends Getaway Trip Ideas, with first-hand experiences and ideas.

Outdoors on the ocean is breathtaking

STROLL ALONG THE BEAUTIFUL BEACHES

Whether you want to swim, walk, surf, paddleboard or just sit and watch the tide; Oregon’s Adventure Coast is the most versatile coastal destination on the Oregon Coast! Visitors come to watch the seals and hope to catch a glimpse of migrating whales! Check out our many beaches and choose your own experience!

DON’T MISS SHORE ACRES STATE PARK

Thousands of visitors come to Shore Acres each year to take in the sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and the luxurious gardens featuring trees, shrubs, and flowering plants from all over the world. This spring you can expect to see thousands of tulips (thru April); hundreds of rhododendrons and azaleas (April thru mid-May) and many thousands of flowering annuals/perennials (May thru Sept).

VISIT SOUTH SLOUGH NATIONAL ESTUARINE RESEARCH RESERVE

Enjoy a hike through the forests and marshes of the country’s first national estuary, the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve. This 5,000-acre natural area is located south of Charleston, Oregon. Visit here for details.

WANDER THROUGH THE COOS ART MUSEUM

The Coos Bay Art Museum has been the cultural hub of Oregon’s scenic South Coast since 1950. See the work from local and national artists and special exhibits throughout the year. Be sure to visit the Prefontaine Gallery where you will find numerous photographs and tributes to hometown hero, Olympian Steve Prefontaine.

EAT SOME SEAFOOD

No trip is complete without a seafood meal! As a deep-sea fishing port, Charleston brings seafood to the port.  There are numerous local restaurants to get a fresh seafood meal to remember.

Go Crabbing and Clamming together!  Oregon’s Adventure Coast is a great place to go on a clam digging adventure or try catching your own Dungeness crab from the waters of lower Coos Bay. There’s nothing like catching your own supper!
