NW Dance Project has commissioned, created, and premiered over 300 original works in Portland to become an international leader in the world of contemporary dance.

Celebrating its 20th year, NW Dance Project performs three diverse, original works from three international female choreographers. Be the first to experience a cinematic and dramatic world premiere ballet from NW Dance Project’s founding Artistic Director Sarah Slipper, as well as a world premiere work from Caroline Finn, former Artistic Director of National Dance Company Wales making her U.S. debut, whose work is sharp, poignant, and humorous.

NW Dance Project creates all its works at their light and bright Creative Center in inner NE Portland which houses one of the largest dance studios in the country and holds diverse year-round classes for adults and youth.

Also on the program is Common Ground from Chinese choreographer Yin Yue, which is an energetic and mesmerizing blend of Chinese traditional folk dance and contemporary dance (known as FoCo).

Our award-winning company performs four unique shows in Portland annually and tours regionally, nationally, and internationally. We are also committed to advancing dance education, equity, and community engagement through our cost-free Dance Moves arts engagement and access programs; ongoing dance training and classes for youth and adults of all levels, abilities, and in a range of dance styles; and special programs for rising, aspiring, and in-transition professional dancers. Most programmatic elements (creation, rehearsals, classes, special projects, administration, etc.) occur at our light, spacious, and beautiful NE Portland Creative Center (211 NE 10th Ave., Portland OR 97232), which has grown to become a crucial multi-functional community resource and support center.
