An Endless Summer On The Oregon Coast

Fall on the Oregon Coast has been referred to as “Second Summer” and for good reason.

Presented by VIP Hospitality September 20, 2023

As families return home and the kids go back to school, our beaches extend their beauty with calmer winds, less people, ideal weather and better deals. Here are 4 ways to keep that Endless Summer going on the Oregon Coast!

Whale Watching

As the summer crowds begin to thin, not only do migratory Gray whales return on their way south, they move closer in to feed, increasing your chance of spotting one of these majestic mammals. In addition, Humpbacks are the second most commonly spotted whales on the Oregon Coast.  Also to note, Orca sightings as of late have grown significantly from prior years.  For the best viewing we suggest a short drive to Boiler Bay or Depoe Bay as both provide several coves for feeding and are a hotspot for whale activity.  If you prefer to keep it simple, get a pair of binoculars and watch in the comfort of your hotel or vacation rental.

Hiking

Oregonians know that hiking on the coast is not only fun, but the fresh air in the foggy mornings of fall make for a unique and almost mystical experience. From endless panoramic views on God's Thumb, or the beauty of a collapsed sea cave in Devils Punchbowl, not all hikes are created equal. One hike in particular, which seems to stay under the radar is Drift Creek Falls. Located near the Valley of Giants east of Lincoln City, it features a 240 foot long suspension bridge that can support 165,000 lbs! This 3.1 mile out and back trail takes an average of 1 ½ half hours to complete and features a beautiful 75 foot waterfall. A day use pass is required and costs $5 via recreation.gov

Lower Hotel Rates

Endless Adventures

It’s a common misconception that outside of “summer” the fun ends because of the change in weather.  Even though rain has finally made way to late summer, good news is the 2023/2024 Farmer’s Almanac has predicted a drier than usual fall/winter season.  This lends way to squeezing in some unexpected sun and fun in the later months while dealing with smaller crowds and shorter lines.
