Get on the Water!
From sparkling lakes to the inspiring Salish Sea, there’s no end to water fun in the peak of the Pacific Northwest.
Play in calm waters at Lake Whatcom, Lake Samish, or Lake Padden. Both are in easy reach of Bellingham and offer hassle-free destinations for kayaking, canoeing, or stand-up-paddle-boarding. The City of Bellingham even offers a stand-up-paddle-board yoga class for those wanting to bliss out on the water.
You can also venture into the Salish Sea for boundless water adventures. Strike out from Bellingham Bay or travel north of town to launch from Birch Bay, Semiahmoo Bay, or Drayton Harbor. Bellingham and Blaine are both boating-friendly communities with full-service marinas, perfect for those wanting to cruise into Canadian waters.
Don’t have your own vessel? Options abound for guided outings! Go on a whale-watching adventure or explore Sucia Island with San Juan Cruises out of Bellingham. You can also book a day trip or overnight excursion with Schooner Zodiac or take a guided tour with Moondance Sea Kayak Adventures and Dragonfly Kayak Tours. Rentals are also available from the Community Boating Center.
Use the Water Trails Map to help plot your journey. For tips on what to do when you’re not on the water, get a free Love Your Waterfront quest pass to learn about restaurants, art, and cultural destinations located along the county’s waterfront. Bon voyage!
