Native musicians, performers, and creators set the tone of the evening, showcasing their craft amidst a vibrant welcome reception. Guests are greeted with wine or a non-alcoholic beverage and bites prepared by the rising star chefs of the Siletz Valley School’s Culinary Program.

A cultural blessing sets the stage for the Celebration of First Foods Dinner, an immersive five-course experience led by Chef Jack Strong – executive chef at The Allison Inn & Spa and member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. Chef Strong is joined by Chef Nephi Craig, executive chef at the Rainbow Treatment Center and Café Gazhóó, and White Mountain Apache/Navajo, and Chef Robert Kinneen, cultural director at NATIFS and Alaska Native of Tlingit heritage.
Together, they weave the stories of first foods into each course, with optional wine pairings from Native winemakers, Greywing Cellars, and Camins 2 Dreams.

Guest MC Elaine Chukan Brown guides the event with eloquence and respect for the chefs and winemakers, infusing the evening’s conversations with stories, humor, and emotional depth. Elaine will lead an engaging Q&A to end the night, inviting reflection on the shared experience of food, culture, and connection.

“We planted a small seed in 2023 with a rather intimate dinner,” says Chef Strong. “Seeing it grow in its third year with so many thoughtful additions and special guests has been inspiring. I look forward to this year’s celebration and the collaborations it brings in honoring our traditions.”
