Experience the Columbia River Maritime Museum - Your Way
Perched along the working waterfront in Astoria, the Columbia River Maritime Museum offers one of the most immersive glimpses into the Pacific Northwest’s maritime heritage. But here’s an insider tip: you don’t have to commit to full admission to enjoy a meaningful visit.
With exhibits and artifacts that are both educational and entertaining, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re short on time, traveling with family, or simply looking for a flexible way to explore, the Museum’s expansive 11-acre campus invites discovery at your own pace – and on your own terms.
Step Outside the Ordinary
Begin your visit outdoors, where towering maritime artifacts tell stories of the Columbia River’s powerful history. The campus itself is a destination, home to historic vessels and large-scale objects that connect visitors to the region’s fishing, shipping, and rescue traditions. It is a one-of-a-kind open-air experience that feels both expansive and deeply rooted in place. Climb Aboard a Living Piece of History
For just $5, step aboard the legendary Lightship Columbia with a Vessel Only ticket. Once stationed at the mouth of the Columbia River and known as the “Graveyard of the Pacific”, this floating lighthouse guided ships safely through treacherous waters.
Today, visitors can explore the ship from top deck to engine room, with daily guided tours that bring its mechanical heart and human stories to life. It’s a rare chance to walk through a fully preserved working vessel and imagine life at sea.
See the World from the Big Screen
Looking to add a cinematic experience to your visit? The Museum’s 3D theater offers stunning, larger-than-life films for just $5 per showing. This 6-seat, wheelchair accessible theater offers a huge 16x9 foot screen and pure digital surround sound, making films feel incredibly realistic. It’s an easy way to dive deeper into maritime and environmental themes, all without committing to a full day indoors. Current features include Arctic: Our Frozen Planet and Aircraft Carrier: Guardian of the Sea – two immersive journeys that span icy frontiers and modern naval power.
