Setting up camp for our first shot took well over two hours. The equipment for the shoot took up an RV, two trucks and a van. Attempting to wrangle gawking tourists from wandering into this shot took constant effort.

The sun beat down on us relentlessly! The magical cure of the day came in the form of one dirty towel I found in the van which we cut into strips, dunked in melted cooler ice and tied around our necks. We looked like an odd accessory campaign.

Though it looks like we’re playing “Ye Olde Time Photo Booth” Carlin’s traveling display monitor let us know we were not suffering unjustly when beautiful photos would pop up on the screen.

We had high hopes of hanging out in the RV’s air conditioned luxury. But the cooler went kaput on us about 20 minutes after arriving. After that, we made it our job to look cool.

During set up changes we would rub ice on our models to keep them from overheating, while also sopping up any sweat threatening to touch the clothing. Oh, the glamorous world of fashion!

To prevent any farm bits from making their way onto our lovely garments, we used stand-ins to figure out the set up, then had the models climb onto their apple boxes and change clothes right in the middle of the field.

After the celebratory champagne had been drunk, and the latkes Carlin’s wife made us were ravenously devoured, we packed up our gear via headlights and finally headed home to blissful sleep.
