1. THE PERFECT JACKET

Bridge and Burn 1122 SW Morrison St; 971-279-4077
With a contemporary fit, a warm charcoal-gray wool shell, a plethora of pockets, and a classic button-up silhouette, the Patton jacket ($210) will put style-conscious menfolk ahead of the game for our wet season.

2. THE COOL GUY

Frances May  1013 SW Washington St; 503-227-3402
For five years Frances May has kept discerning lads clad head-to-toe in names like Acne and A.P.C., along with plenty of pieces from Pendleton’s Portland Collection. Leather contrast oxfords ($375) from chic French line Melinda Gloss kick an old staple into the world of modern cool.

3. THE ALL-AMERICAN

Blake 26 NW 23rd Pl; 503-222-4848
Owner Blake Nieman-Davis prides himself on his Nob Hill shop’s illustrious denim collection. These hand-finished selvedge jeans ($250) from RRL (“double-r-l”), a spin-off line from Ralph Lauren, get a bath of special indigo wash.

[Editor's Note: As we went to print, Blake Nieman-Davis announced he will close his flagship store to focus on a new business venture. At this time, all remaining inventory is on sale.]

4. EL FASHIONISTA

Machus 542 E Burnside St; 503-206-8626
Machus’s high-end pieces hang from the shop’s racks in fashion-forward shades of gray, white, and black, courting the man who prefers to dress with a little edge. A color-blocked button-up ($135) from New York’s Saturdays demands a second look while remaining wearable for work or play.

5. THE SILVER FOX

Mario’s 833 SW Broadway; 503-227-3477
Senior menswear buyer Simon Chan sums up the Mario’s customer as “men who pay attention to their own individual style and don’t want to look like the next guy.” And nothing says confidence like a good tie. Mario’s offers a spectrum of silky patterns, like this classic polka dot ($95) from Hugo Boss.
