Local fashion photographer Christine Taylor has a long impressive history in the biz. From shooting big name bands all over the country to snapping pics for magazines like Spin and, ahem, Portland Monthly, she could have easily filled a gallery with just her work.

Instead, Taylor took inspiration from her city and curated an exhibit, Notions of Beauty, of some of the Northwest’s best fashion photographers (including well known names like Holly Andres, Brendan Coughlin, and Rafael Astorga) into an exhibit that launches Thursday, May 1 at the Steven Goldman Gallery. Taylor says she designed to look like “a living breathing publication that one walks right into the heart of” while also supporting the concept that the photographer's vision is equally unique as the designer's.

The exhibit will be up throughout the month of May, but stop in to the opening reception Thursday night from 5–8 pm to speak with Taylor and other photographers in attendance about their work and vision for Portland’s fashion scene (And after 8 the hosts are encouraging everyone to head to Jackknife in the new Sentinel for drinks and mingling). In addition to traditional prints the show also features the fashion projects of top creative directors, along side objects that were used in the fashion shoots on display. There are videos and gifs, and publications that have all been created here in the Northwest. 

For Taylor, including far more than photos hanging on the wall was important. “Together this large amount of work acts as proof that Northwest fashion is a community.  We are all connected.  I would like to say this show has been dedicated to the models and other talent that help us on our projects.  Projects that could not happen without them.”
