Schoolhouse Electric’s new fall line is a study in material. While staying true to its trademark clean, vintage inspired designs, the homewares mini-empire based in Northwest Industrial gives its repertoire a base-up twist. Old favorites get new hues, Schoolhouse’s signature brass shows up in unexpected places, and experimental materials join the mix. We chatted with Schoolhouse product designer Jorie Garcia about some key additions.

Woodland Meadow Bedding Inspired by vintage tulle, these ethereal bed sheets have neutral ground with big color-pop potential. Designed by Leah Duncan, they walk the feminine/masculine line perfectly.

Schoolhouse Clock Already an established customer favorite, this classic clock gets a make-over with the season’s fresh hue, persimmon. “When we have strong feelings for a piece,” Garcia says, “it is really exciting to see it in a new way.” This bold color injection provides the perfect face-lift to any room’s décor.

Brass Planter Bringing metal expertise from the traditional lighting realm into the household goods, this minimalist planter makes the perfect addition to any windowsill or end table. “With our factory in the building and experience with the material,” Garcia notes of this cross-genre remix, :we can be involved in every step of the design process.”

Leather and Felt Tablet Case Exploring the accessory world further, Schoolhouse teams up with Portland’s local Tanner Goods to create this beautifully understated carrying case. “We want to work with people who are really good at what they do, experts in their individual field, just as we are in ours,” Garcia explains. With an outside pocket, perfectly sized for a tablet and made of Tanner’s decadent navy blue leather, it’s as functional as it is chic.

Poplight Perhaps the most exciting addition to Schoolhouse’s new offerings, this retro inspired lamp is the offspring of a flea market score. Bringing a new material, Lucite, to its repertoire, Schoolhouse fuses a vintage silhouette with an authentic mod twist. Garcia says: “When we have find a individual piece, a one-of-a-kind like this, and are able to make it mass-accessible through thoughtful design and quality materials—that is what Schoolhouse is all about.”
