Fashion in Film with hosts Eden Dawn and Marjorie Skinner
Poison Ivy | Friday, December 19 | 9:45 pm
Hollywood Theater

Prep yourself for this glamorous announcement. The final 2014 installment of Hollywood Theater’s Fashion in Film series is the tantalizing '90s cult hit Poison Ivy. Starring a nearly platinum blonde teenage Drew Barrymore (as Ivy, and the reason behind my bad '90s tattoos), who befriends nerdy Sara Gilbert (aka Darlene from Roseanne) before a lot of bad stuff in this drama-thriller goes down. There’s talk of suicide and cool music, Barrymore seducing Gilbert’s father (Tom Skerritt and eww!), and oh-so-many more things.

A true time capsule of the greatest decade in history leaves the view with a newfound respect for red trench coats. To quote my cohost Marjorie Skinner, “Barrymore underwent one of the juiciest aesthetic transformations ever captured on film: From a sexy, trashy biker jacket, a fried bleach job, and underage tattoos, to voluminous blowouts and sophisticated evening/suicide gowns. Ivy’s evolution inspired viewers to pick up the red lipstick and learn how to French twist.”
