Our Favorite Closet-Ready Looks From Portland's Alley 33 Runway

Altar

A simple silhouette from Altar, made far more interesting with the soft print and the unexpectedly high side slit allowing for a number of ways to style this tunic.

Carolyn Hart

Workwear isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a runway show, but I loved this cozy look totally appropriate for the office, while still avoiding boring at all costs.

Chubby Cartwheels

While many plus-sized lines seem to just drape boring fabric on women, this bold two-piece leopard print is body positive fun.

Emma Salz

A newbie to the scene, Salz's construction skills deserve an applause, and the fabric choices for these sweet dresses an encore.

KD Designs

A maxi skirt and blouse isn't anything new, but KD Designs using traditional athletic wear mesh to make a modern version of the top and pairing it with a bold color choice is.

Laurs Kemp

My favorite overall collection of the night, Kemp's soft colors, easy going vibe, and sophisticated design is perfect for Portland.

Lizz Basinger

Jumpsuit with cut out back details? Be still my heart.

Mink

A good wrap dress is another one of those work (or play) necessities that one should always have in their closet. Having one in a sassy jewel tone = bonus.

Moore

Double points go to Moore for showing both men and women's collections. I rarely like either a harem pant or men's shorts, and fell for both of these so.....quadruple points?

Piper Dalton Designs

Dalton creates her knitwear from scratch out of skeins of wool and cashmere yarn, so these super soft, cozy, beautiful pieces deserve an extra ogling.

Smith River Apparel

A collection debut at Alley 33, this fully styled look won me over with its attention to detail from the matching cuffs to the proportion of the crop top to high waist skirt, and the sweet little tie on top.

Veil and Valor

Veil and Valor did what they do best, create edgy (dare I say funky?) looks that balance silhouette against textile manipulation and print. The denim is a new avenue for them (one I encourage) and the hand-screened "Strange" quotes from Frida Kahlo are the perfect amount of quirk.

MVP Model

I don't know this model's name, but he gets MVP of the night for having a sashay that will not quit. While we're giving out kudos, great job to the Red Velvet Parlour for gorgeous hair and the Beau Monde school for nailing it on makeup. Well done all.

On August 8, the Alley 33 production team of December Carson, Elizabeth Mollo, and Cassie Ridgway managed to cram nearly 400 people into a side street off Hawthorne and let fashion rule the streets. With me on the microphone, DJ Gregarious spinning, and a happy crowd cheering for fashion, we were off.
