For five years, this family trio—sisters Krista and Leah Stovel, along with Leah’s husband, Avery Bloom—have grown their small Etsy apparel start-up Make It Good into an indie stronghold. The line, which does its sewing and screen-printing in a Southeast Portland factory, specializes in simple silhouettes with non-fussy patterns. The result? Comfortable, everyday women’s wear.

The collection began when Leah Stovel and Bloom moved here from the Bay Area with a truck full of sewing machines and a screen-printing press in tow. After bringing Krista on board, the family set up shop with simple knit underwear and basics. Now the team has expanded their Make It Good line to cute dresses, cozy sweatshirts, and ponte knit skirts. Find all the soft bits in their current winter lookbook and in person at their downtown retail space, North of West.
