Ten years ago Portland native Nicole Whitesell opened up shop Adorn in the cute Beaumont neighborhood stocked with Prairie Underground, Citizens of Humanity jeans, and, once upon a time, the Pendleton Portland Collection (R.I.P.). Now Whitesell is head of a small chic boutique chainlet with shops on Fremont, Division, downtown, and Lake Oswego all offering onsite stylists to help you shop. This month their growth continues with the launch of the company’s first house line, an athleisure collection called Shine by Adorn.

“I wanted to create options for our customers who were shopping in our store in their workout clothes,” says Whitesell via press release. “I wanted to create that feeling of confidence you get from a great outfit, without getting rid of the comfort factor.”
The collection took two years to come together and includes all the standard stretchy bits to build an outfit—think yoga pants, shorts, hoodies, tees, and sports bras—in various combos of nylon, polyester, and spandex. Pieces run from $28 for a simple biker short up to $78 for geometric zip up jacket. Shine becomes available online on May 17 with plans to carry the pieces at all locations by fall. Until then they’ll be available IRL exclusively at the Lake Oswego location with a launch party on Thursday, May 16 with swag bags for the first fifty guests as well as cocktails, prizes, and gifts with purchase. An opportunity to see the items up close and toast a locally made athleisure option run by a woman-owned business.
“Besides having complete control of fit, styles and all of the little details that make a piece really special, by taking manufacturing into our own hands, we have the opportunity to bring our customers an amazing product at an even better price,” she says.
