Pass Play

Stuff a state park in your sock.

By Brian Barker December 2, 2009

Nothing enhances the Muddy Boot’s holiday merriment quite like landing the perfect stocking stuffer gift. Well, here’s a sure-fire idea that just made my wish list. Right now you can score 12-month Oregon State Park day-use passes for a discounted holiday rate of $20. (Normally $25).

Alright, I hear you. Saving $5 on a park pass isn’t exactly a Black Friday door-buster deal. But consider this: after Jan 1, yearly passes jump to $30 a pop. That’s right. Come 2010 the state is jacking up rates for the first time since 1997. Single day passes will also increase from $3 to $5. The days of your state park tab being dwarfed by the cost of your morning latte at Starbucks are over.

Double bonus: you can also buy two-year passes for $40. The passes are available by calling 1-800-551-6949. (Or visit for a list of vendors.) The state’s little holiday deal runs until December 31. But really, you might as well get it now, before you do something silly—like forgetting to get me one.
