Harvest Festival
Tonight, Kruger’s Farm on Sauvie Island is hosting Howl at the Moon! Harvest Night, a benefit for the Portland Audubon Society. Hop on a hayride in search of migrating birds, take a spin through the giant corn maze, warm up by the harvest bonfire, and then, at 7:00 p.m. sharp, watch as Auduboners release six orphaned barn owls from their care center back into the wild. Pssst—now’d be a good time to howl.

Dog Days
Here’s something else to howl about: On Saturday Mount Hood Ski Bowl has something special up their sleeve for a certain member of your family—the dog. Round up your hound and head to the mountain where you’ll find three marked routes—a one-mile easy, two-mile moderate, and a four-mile “extreme” course—for dog-and-family hikes. If that doesn’t set your best friend’s tail a’waggin’, knowing that the whole event benefits Oregon Guide Dogs for the Blind, should do the trick.

National Public Lands Day
Saturday is also National Public Lands Day, the largest one-day volunteer event for public lands in the country. So if you’ve played hard all summer long in our national forests, beaches, and parklands, it’s as good a time as any to give a little something back. SOLV has more than 100 cleanup events planned, stretching from the coast to the Willamette River. For mountain lovers, head up to Marble Mountain Snow Park for a day of trail work, sign restoration, cutting firewood, and clearing brush with the Mount St Helens Institute. What? You didn’t think they’d be handing out their prized “Get Dirty” t-shirts for free, did you?

Sunday Parkways
The final Sunday Parkways event of the season takes place in NW Portland. The 4.4-mile loop takes riders past Wallace and Couch Park, and the Pearl District. You’ll even brush past the Saturday Market. Mountain bikers: don’t miss Northwest Trail Alliance’s mobile skills course which they’ll set up in Wallace Park.
