Forest Park Singletrack Rally
This Saturday, the Northwest Trail Alliance will be hosting a fresh-brewed, coffee-fueled rally in an effort to demonstrate Portland cyclists’ desire to increase singletrack biking trails in Forest Park.
The ride will take place on Saturday, October 16 at 9:30 am on Forest Park’s Leif Erikson access road (which is legally open to bicycles) and is open to riders of all ages and skill-levels.
For both alliance members and diehard single-trackers following closely the ups and downs of the growing debate, the ride means another step (or pedal) in the right direction. “The ride is intended to be a peaceful show of support for off-road cycling in Forest Park,” says Northwest Trail Alliance President, Tom Archer. “We resolve to make Forest Park a place where cyclists don’t feel excluded, but instead are treated at par with hikers, runners, nature watchers, and dog walkers.”
The ride follows an announcement by Portland Parks and Recreation Commissioner Nick Fish who, while at one point appeared eager to begin trail expansion, recently reported that no new singletrack access would be granted for at least two years.
