Singles Party
To mountain bikers these slightly longer days we’re enjoying means riding season is finally within reach. And while maybe you’ve been holed up in your garage with an Allen wrench and a tube of grease tuning and lubing up your bike so it’s ready to roll at a moment’s notice, odds are, Mother Nature has not been as kind to the trails out there. And that’s precisely why Northwest Trail Alliance (NWTA) is rallying its crew for a pair of trail build days out at Sandy Ridge, one the premier trails in the region, and out at Stub Stewart State Park.
The project out at Sandy Ride will take place on the lower Hide & Seek trail and is in conjunction with efforts by the Bureau of Land Management who are rolling in some heavy artillery: paver blocks, gravel, and other equipment, not to mention an incentive program that could wind up landing you a shot at winning a brand-spanking new Ibis Mojo mountain bike donated by Portland’s Fat Tire Farm. And out at Stub Stewart crews will focus on adding new single-track trails.
Trail-specific tools and instruction are provided onsite, as are plenty of riding partners for the afternoon when the work wraps up. Both events are free, and everybody’s welcome. But don’t just show up unannounced. Drop them a note and let‘em know you’re in.
Can’t make it this weekend? Efforts on both trails will be ongoing throughout the year. You can also hook up with NWTA members next Tuesday at the Hollywood Bike Gallery during their Mountain Bike Open House featuring the latest bikes from Kona and Trek, industry reps, repair clinics, door prizes, and discounts on gear. They’ll even hand a beer at the door, if you’re so inclined.
Our suggested toast? Cheers to longer days.
