Forest Park Conservancy launches All Trails Challenge 2011

February 18, 2011

Here’s something to kick your hiking season into high gear: The Forest Park Conservancy has just announced details on its annual All Trails Challenge.

If you’re not familiar with the All Trails Challenge (ATC)—it’s exactly what it sounds like: a dare for you to muscle your legs up and down every trail in the park, some 80-miles worth in all.

Don’t worry. This is not a sprint. In fact, you’ve got seven months to complete this trail-a-thon. But it’s not just about your boots. It’s about health the park. This year the ATC will serve as the Conservancy’s fundraiser for Forest Park, with participants encouraged to recruit friends, family members, and anyone else who will throw you an Andrew Jackson, to sponsor your participation though their donations.

Those who commit to the ATC will get plenty of backup from the Conservancy, too. Among the tools at your disposal: online navigation resources, discounted maps and guide books about the park, and best of all your, your own personal fundraising web page—provided gratis—to help rake in the cash, form teams to tackle the trails, and, no doubt, to virtually taunt the other challengers. Naturally, you’ll keep your comments clean—just like how you’d like Forest Park to stay.

So who’s gonna do this with you? Odds are that you’ll meet up with like-minded folks during Forest Park Conservancy’s ATC 2011 launch party on March 3 inside the Keen Footwear Headquarters in the Pearl. On tap for the evening: details on the grand prize for the top fundraiser—a week’s stay at a five-bedroom villa in the south of France.

Viva le Forest Park!

And for a some extra inspiration, here’s a Oregon’s Field Guide excellent episode on Forest Park which aired last year.
