This Thursday Northwest Trail Alliance will kick off their second annual
Trail Fest by hosting the Portland premiere of the new bike-centric documentary Pedal Driven: a bike-umentary at the Hollywood Theater.

Two years in the making, the film, which was created in affiliation with the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA), focuses on the clandestine world of illegal singletrack riding and trail building, a nefarious activity that NWTA members are all too familiar with.

Last year NTWA saw their efforts to increase singletrack access inside Forest Park become hopelessly derailed after a now infamous rogue mountain bike trail was discovered in the park in the sensitive habitat of the northern part of the park. All of a civil discourse between skeptical park advocates and bikers evaporated when news of the trail spread.

But Pedal Driven could be a balm for the mountain bike community. Amid the fracus over illicit trails, film crews fan out over the Northwest in search of riders doing it the right way and working hand-in-hand with pubic agencies to create responsible trails. Local stops include Bend and the former logging town of Oakridge where fat tire riding has provided a shot in the arm to the local economy.
