Eugene Gets New Digs

A sneak peek at the boutique hotel the Inn at the 5th

When the Inn at the 5th welcomes its first guests February 1, it will become the first new hotel in downtown Eugene in nearly 30 years.

And what a doozy it is.

The $11.7 million hotel’s 70 pet-friendly rooms average 425 square feet and feature fireplaces, 400-thread-count Italian linens, and balconies or window seats. Guests can even lower a bucket from their balcony and draw up a bottle of vino from local wine tasting shop LaVelle. Throughout the hotel, you’ll find glassworks by a local artist and mantels constructed from an old Nike store.

Developed by the owner of Eugene’s quaint outdoor Fifth Street Public Market, Brian Obie, the Inn at the 5th has found other ways to incorporate nearby shops. The hotel boasts spa services from nearby Gervais spa, and the French-inspired Marché restaurant just across the street delivers room service meals, such as wood-oven roasted steelhead or Moroccan tagine, prepared by James Beard–nominated chef Stephanie Pearl Kimmel. Not that you’ll see her, or so much as a waiter: room service is delivered by way of a private "butler cabinet"; a light notifies you when your supper is ready and waiting for you inside.

And, of course, in the land of the Swoosh, there’s a state-of-the-art fitness room on site too.

Standard rooms begin at $209 per night.
