Above the Tempurpedic queen bed and hops mural (hand painted by Kimberley), a loft offers the ultimate fort for children. For younger ones, a supplied a Pack n’ Play will come in handy. (Dunkel, the Yaeger’s pup who’s named for the German Dunkelweizen beer, isn’t included, but you can bring your own dog for $15 more a night.)

Asheville, North Carolina, and Grand Rapids, Michigan, might have claimed the 2012 Beer City USA title (really? Grand Rapids?!), but we know better. Home to more than 70 breweries and brew pubs, Portland has been pioneering the notion of beer tourism—with a little help from some brothers named McMenamins—for decades. And, now, over near SE Hawthorne Boulevard, the cute 600-square-foot Inn Beervana helps continue the trend.

A hand-selected six pack of local Oregon beers awaits guests at this $140-a-night B&B, a few blocks from the dog-friendly Lucky Labrador Brew Pub. That’s just one of the more than 35 breweries and pubs within a two-mile radius of the Inn, a converted garage that debuted in the spring of 2011. On the counter, visitors will discover a binder in which beer writer Brian Yaeger, who runs Inn Beervana with his wife Kimberley, has meticulously detailed iconic spots like the Bagdad Theatre as well as more hidden gems like Hawthorne Hophouse. Still have questions? Brian—and his font of beer knowledge—can be found right next door.
