Portland's Best Pet Hotels

A new wave of boutique pet hotels makes it easier for owners to leave their furry friends behind while traveling.

In Portland, pet owners have every right to envy their four legged friends.

With an extravagant array of cat condos and pooch penthouses, these luxury kennels may just become your animal’s new best friend. So go ahead. Plan your next getaway.

Just make sure you don’t forget to schedule Fido’s paw-dicure.

Stay Pet Hotel
Founded by a former veterinary assistant, Stay offers a panacea of pet amenities for every dog: multiple indoor and outdoor play spaces with artificial grass, custom-made beds, and a movie library (nothing like a little Lady and the Tramp to soften the separation anxiety). Dogs in need of extra energy outlets can enjoy their Waggin Wagon mobile playgroup.

Prices Start At: $42/night for a standard suite

Sniff Dog Hotel
Give Fido the four-star treatment at this lavish pet hotel in NW Portland. Sniff offers an extensive array of rooms (including the Penthouse, which boasts a webcam and flat-screen TV for $75/night) as well as daycare in their indoor park, training, and pet spa options.

Prices Start At: $37/night for a standard room

Kitty Condos
Fear not, a Four Seasons for felines exists too. Kitty Condos pride themselves on their “cage free boarding” options, which range from budget cubicles ($10/night) to Grand Suites ($22) that come furnished with a toddler bed, deluxe kitty climbing tree and choice of décor motif: ocean fish or exotic bird.

Prices Start At: $10/night for budget cubicles

Meowhaus
The options for animal entertainment are unlimited at this feline boarding and day spa. Suites are equipped with private view of an indoor aviary for bird watching as well as perches and climbing steps to keep kitty fit (ramps are available for arthritic cats and, ahem, portly pussies). If you’re a worrywart, Meowhaus will send you daily updates with pictures via e-mail.

Prices Start At: $20/night for a standard suite

LexiDog Boutique & Social Club
With three Portland area locations, LexiDog goes above and beyond to encourage owners to pamper their pup. Their accommodations are simpler than other hotels (relatively speaking), with only two options available, a private room ($25/night) or a deluxe suite ($30/night). But their menu of services boasts a ‘Waggy Hour’ with food and wine for dog owners as well as supervised birthday parties for your canine with cake, balloons, and activities.

Prices Start At: $25/night for a private room

Fido’s Indoor Dog Park
Fido's is Portland’s largest indoor dog park with over 20,000 square feet of climate-controlled play space and the only pet pool in the area. Overnight ‘guests’ enjoy a private den lined with K9 soft grass and unlimited access to the lobby (decked out with leather couches for lounging), play spaces and pool.

Prices Start At: $42/night for boarding

AirPet Hotel
The next big thing in pet care is geared towards business travelers. AirPet will pick up your cat or dog at the airport. When owners return, pets can be picked up anytime day or night or even delivered to the airport. While the Seattle location is operating normally, AirPet's Portland branch, which opened in 2011, is currently seeking a new location and will be reopen at an unknown date. That is, if growing pet hotel chains like Pet Paradise Resorts or Best Friends Pet Care don’t beat them to it.
