Portland's Columbia Sportswear is now hiring for two brand-new positions: Directors of Toughness.
The directors will be two brand evangelists who have the know-how and will to survive, say, a snowy mountain trek in subzero temps. The pair will go on a six month international adventure, testing Columbia's gear in extreme conditions and, presumably, keeping their tweeting thumbs dethawed. The two chosen candidates will also appear on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live before they set out.
In addition to the requisite social media/presentation skills, Columbia is looking for:
- Skilled at skiing or snowboarding (resort and/or backcountry)
- A pro at balancing gear and navigating trails of varying degrees
- Adept at pushing through a long, hard day, subsisting on trails snacks and the occasional wild berry
- Prefer sleeping under the stars to high thread counts and room service
The salary is $26,000 for half a year—not a kingly sum, but that doesn't include the fully-paid international adventure you're going to be going on. The Portland job screening begins on September 8, with the new hires reporting for "work" on September 21.
