Oregon is home to more than 22,000 nonprofits, so naturally it’s hard to choose where you might want to donate your time and energy. But the Wetlands Conservancy is doing big things to help preserve Oregon’s most diverse and rich natural lands.  

If you’re ready to dig into exactly why the wetlands are glorious and absolutely worthy of preservation, join the conservancy on their February weekend getaway to Camp Westwind, a privately owned camp just 20 minutes north of Lincoln City on the Oregon Coast.

At the family-friendly weekend, accommodations will be provided in the form of rustic cabins, and meals will be served family-style. This is your chance to see a mile stretch of untouched Oregon beach to which only campground guests have access. You can stick to the planned schedule of guided hikes, salmon estuary tours, and evening lectures by Forest Service experts, or cobble together your own agenda of solo hiking, beach exploration, and getting to know your conservancy cohorts.

This is the Wetlands Conservancy’s first overnight guided tour, but they’ve offered a few day trips over the past six months, including a guided kayaking trip through Coos Bay. Keep your eyes peeled (and your waterproof boots handy) for an urban wetland tour in March aimed at getting kids outside and engaged with some old-fashioned frog and salamander spotting.
