The northern lights in Iceland—want to see them this winter?

So you were like, the holidays are coming up, but I don't have any cool plans. Then Icelandair says, hey, Portlander, what about Frankfurt, or Amsterdam? Maybe Munich or Paris? You can even stop over at my place for a week on your way there. All for $499, round trip, taxes included.

That's the deal, unveiled today by the Reykjavik-based international carrier, which launched direct flights from Portland last year. The catch? Icelandair's discounted tickets (and you'll have to hunt for them, wedged between much pricier ones) are good for a narrow window of travel—between November 1, 2016 and January 10, 2017. A further caveat: your trip must be purchased by Sunday, October 30. That means starting today, you've got just 10 days to secure that winter European vacation you now realize you need. Ready, set, go!
