Red Dress Required
On a Saturday night in early May, 2,002 rollicking guests worked out on three raucous dance floors at the 9th annual Red Dress Party. The sold-out event raised $30,000, which will be distributed to three Portland charities, Esther’s Pantry, which provides food to people living with HIV/AIDS, Outside In, which serves homeless youth, and SHARE, an organization with resources for gay and lesbian seniors.
Entry to the party requires wearing a red dress: no exceptions. In fact, there is a rack of extras hanging just behind the ticket table, if a guest comes dressed inappropriately—ahem, pants—they are welcome to borrow a dress from the house.
The outfits this evening ranged from resplendent to ridiculous, and hit nearly all imaginable notes in between. Take a look.
