The Central Catholic senior ripped a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning of the Amateur Softball Association’s 16-and-under national championship game to give the title to her team, Beaverton’s Northwest Blaze. Maybe she can offer inspiration to that other Portland Blaze-something team.

Megahurtz (aka Meghann Gilligan)
Drew Barrymore sure stands tall atop a pair of skates in her newly released movie Whip It, but in Portland, we’ve got the real deal: Megahurtz. As co-captain of roller derby team the Wheels of Justice, she leads our local all-star squad to the Western Regional Finals in Denver this month.

Edwin Skaug
The 30-year-old Portland cyclist recently opened A Convenient Cycle, Portland’s first mini-mart designed for bike commuters, on SE Eighth Ave and Main St, where essentials like toothpaste and toilet paper share shelf space with tires, patch kits, and bike lights. We’ve saved Skaug a seat next to our other wheeled guest, Megahurtz.

Larry Wilson
In August, the radio mogul and CEO of Alpha Broadcasting dropped $40 million on the purchase of four Portland stations: KINK, KUPL, KUFO, and KCMD (an AM talk-radio station). Watch what you say.

David Wiegand
In August, the local mortgage underwriter bested nearly 500 other contestants to win the 2009 National Scrabble Championship tournament in Dayton, Ohio—for the second time. (He also took the title in 2005.) That spells guest of honor in our book.
