The Perfect Party

People we’d most like at our dinner table this month

Ted Wheeler?

It’s easy to see Wheeler—who in just three years turned one of the worst-run local governments into one of the best—joining Attorney General John Kroger in the 2014 race for governor. After all, in March he was made Oregon State Treasurer by Governor Ted Kulongoski, vacating his role as Multnomah County chairman. But no reaching across the table, Ted. Wait your turn!?

Jack the Chihuahua?

This Oregon City pup’s yapping earned him a Red Cross Hero award in March: the dog alerted his sleeping owner, Chris Santiago, to flames in their apartment. Santiago then warned his neighbors. Thanks to the duo, no one was injured. Jack’s still gun-shy around flames, so we’ll skip the candlelight at this month’s dinner table. (But we will have a booster seat on hand.)

Todd Haynes and Jon Raymond

Who knows how this pair might spin their upcoming retelling of James M. Cain’s classic noir novel, Mildred Pierce, for HBO? Raymond’s screenplays offer Gen Y updates to the genre of tragedy; Haynes once enlisted a Barbie doll for a lead role. But with Oscar winner Kate Winslet cast to play Mildred, the stars appear aligned for a classic.

Martin Goebel

The Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, hogged the spotlight at February’s historic signing of the Klamath Basin Agreement. But the compact’s original fingerprints belong to Sustainable Northwest president Martin Goebels, who, back in 2001, helped hatch Yainix Ranch, a 700-acre wetland restoration project that showed the win-win of better stewardship.

Stefani Talbott ?

Lost ends its six-year run this month, but life sans island is still dangerous. In February, this Bend stripper said she had an affair with the married Matthew Fox, who plays _Lost_’s good guy, Jack. The charge cast suspicion on Fox’s claims of moving to Oregon for family reasons, proving, yet again, that just when we think we have this show pegged, we don’t know Jack.
