Pok Pok Noi opens for lunch
Pok Pok’s popular Northeast satellite will open for lunch daily starting Monday, October 17. (Currently, lunch hours are restricted to weekends only.) The space has the feel of a roadside diner, and is best known for serving a consistently tight menu of Pok Pok’s greatest hits. Among the dozen dishes: kai yaang (charcoal-roasted chicken), khao soi (curry noodle soup), boar collar with chilled mustard greens, and, of course, the famed Ike’s Vietnamese fish sauce wings. Lunch and dinner menus will essentially be the same, backed by Pok Pok’s well-tuned cocktails and drinking vinegars. New hours will be Monday–Sunday, 11:30 a.m.–10 p.m.
Burrasca cuts lunch service
Southeast Clinton’s rustic Tuscan eatery has stopped serving its roasted pork and salsa verde sandwiches and Livornese chickpea flour “tortas” with marinated eggplant (though you can still order them through delivery app Caviar). They’ll also do the occasional Saturday lunch pop-up with special themes, such as Tuscan street food.
Der Rheinlander is closing, for real
After months of rumors, NE Sandy Boulevard’s 53-year-old Teutonic tasting room will officially close in early 2017, the Oregonian reports. Founded in 1963 by one of Portland’s most enterprising restaurateurs, Horst Mager, Der Rheinlander is a veritable German theme park, complete with a castle-like exterior, lederhosen, and oceans of fondue.
Bar Casa Vale finally opens
Nate Tilden’s Bar Casa Vale is only six months late to its own opening at 215 SE 9th Ave (a veritable blink of an eye compared to the restaurateur’s delayed Pepe Le Moko opening). As Eat Beat first reported in February, the Spanish spot’s menu focuses on wood-fired cooking, with bites like black rice with squid and sausage, crispy langoustines, and little montadito sandwiches. P.R.E.A.M is revived as Associated
EaterPDX reports that Associated, the replacement project for Southeast Portland’s hip-hop-themed pizza spot P.R.E.A.M., is now open, thanks to the folks behind the Lightning Bar Collective (Bye and Bye, Sweet Hereafter, etc.). Former P.R.E.A.M. chef Nick Ford is still working his wood-fired pizza oven in the same space, but adding tacos—al pastor to tempura cauliflower—to the mix.
