New year s eve bk0pow

As we wave goodbye (or good riddance) to 2017, here are seven New Year's Eve parties, dinners, and concerts. 2018, you don’t have very large shoes to fill.

Eat your feelings

Dinner: 4:30–9:30 p.m, after-party: 11 p.m.–2 a.m., Departure, $30–180
Chef Gregory Gourdet pulls out all stops as Departure celebrates the New Year on the rooftop patio. Guests can choose from three nine-course tasting menus (one entirely vegan) as they prepare to toast to 2018 during the after-party with music provided by DJ Ana Sia.

Sing it out

7 and 10:30 p.m., Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, $50–150
Portland’s home band Pink Martini rings in the new with a special concert at the Schnitz presented by the Oregon Symphony. The band’s leading ladies China Forbes and Storm Large provide vocals, with guest appearances by NPR’s Ari Shapiro, the von Trapps, and Cantor Ida Rae Cahana.

Indulge yourself

Midnight, Pix Pâtisserie, FREE
Start the New Year with a meaningful sugar high at Pix Pâtisserie's free (with the purchase of a beverage by 11 p.m.) midnight chocolate buffet. Binge on chocolate cake, chocolate truffles, and even chocolate beer along with a taste of one of 400 bottles of sparkling wine, and then resolve to come at 2018 swinging.

Dance it off

8 p.m. Eagle's Lodge, $20–25
Ural Thomas & The Pain return to the Eagle’s Lodge for a two-hour set to bridge the years. For inspiration, check out the band's new holiday-themed video.

7:30 p.m., Tony Starlight, prices vary
Throw on your bell bottoms and platform shoes and welcome the New Year with some groovy '70s soft rock tunes from Tony Starlight and his band—expect renditions of Elton John, Neil Diamond, and Carol King.

Go back even farther

9:30 p.m., The Steep and Thorny Way to Heaven, $25–150
Journey to the 1920s at this Prohibition-themed night carnival. The space will be disguised as a speakeasy, complete with secret passwords and burlesque performances. Come dressed in a throwback costume to win a prize.

Don a fancy mask

9 p.m., Hawthorne Theatre, $23–40
Bollywood Dreams Entertainment asks us to “celebrate our unity in diversity” at this New Year’s Eve masquerade ball. You get a fancy mask with your ticket, with tunes—Bollywood, bhangra, and world music—from DJ Prashant.
