PDX Bridge Festival makes donut history

By Christine Bedenis August 10, 2011

The PDX Bridge kickoff party, which was located at Slate in NW, featured artists such as And AndAnd, Wax Fingers, Housefire, Boy Eats Drum Machine, and Solovox.

A world-record setting 666 pounds of Voodoo Doughnuts, a block party with local rock dignitaries, walking bridge tours, and the transformation of Hawthorne Bridge into a park, were all a part of the second annual PDX Bridge Festival. Started last year as a celebration of the Hawthorne Bridge’s centennial, the fest continues to honor the spans of concrete that connect us to each other. A block party on July 29 showcased some homegrown musical talent like AndAndAnd, Wax Fingers, Housefire, Boy Eats Drum Machine, and Solovox, and wound down with Brunch on the Bridge on August 6, where Voodoo Doughnuts officially set the record for the world’s largest box of doughnuts and festivalgoers enjoyed a barefoot stroll and picnic on the freshly-laid sod covering the Hawthorne Bridge.
