Do This Now November 2011

David Sedaris and John Hodgman are coming to town and Portland rock icons Sleater-Kinney will all be in the same place at the same time.

Did someone proclaim this Witty Menfolk Month? David Sedaris (Nov 4), left, unleashes his trademark semi-nonfictional drollery at the Schnitz. Literati darling John Hodgman (Nov 6) discusses his entirely bogus (but hilarious) “facts” at the Bagdad. Finally, super-dude Adam Carolla (Nov 13) mouths off, also at the Schnitz. Testosterone: always funny! Sometimes on purpose!

Barring a late-season miracle, the Timbers will be done. The Blazers might be locked out. But hockey’s Portland Winterhawks will be forechecking with abandon. We’re circling the ’Hawks’ two-night stand against league rival Spokane Chiefs (Nov 11–12). Because who doesn’t like seeing Spokane get two straight beatdowns?

Sleater-Kinney’s three queens of ’90s feminist indie rock all hit the Doug Fir this month. First the Corin Tucker Band, right, stars S-K’s wailer-in-chief (Nov 4); then guitarist Carrie Brownstein and drummer Janet Weiss reunite as part of Wild Flag (Nov 9–10).
