Do This Now: April

Our picks for your calendar this month.

By Gino Cerruti March 22, 2013

What better way to thaw your leg muscles than with Walk MS (Apr 13) or Race for the Roses (Apr 14), which raise funds for MS research and mental health. Or try Bridge to Brews (Apr 7), an 8k or 10k run that starts and ends at Widmer Brothers Brewery. Want less running, more cheering? The Blazers face Golden State in the regular season finale (Apr 17).

Turn your Nancy Drew collection into handbags at artist Shawn Bowman’s Recycled Book Purses (Apr 10, 17 & 20). The Portland Oregon Paper Shapers (Apr 14) will help you master the art of origami. Or, should the desire strike to emulate an imaginary retro-future past (or something like that), head to the Capitol Hill Library for a Steampunk Craft Workshop (Apr 7) to turn thrift-store materials into quasi-Victorian trinkets.

Need a place to wear your new outfit? Try the 10th Annual Stumptown Comics Fest (Apr 27–28), which welcomes artists and writers (like Becky Cloonan, the first woman to ever draw for DC’s Batman), plus thousands of fans. Dust off your plastic lightsaber and swing in to the Aladdin Theater for actor Charles Ross’s One Man Star Wars Trilogy (Apr 26), a propless, costumeless retelling of George Lucas’s first three films (a.k.a. “the good Star Wars”).
