Colin Meloy
Crystal Ballroom
Jan 21
For the final night of its fittingly 100-day-long centennial celebration, the Crystal Ballroom is bringing out a local favorite. While his familiar warble might be most recognizable from his work as frontman and primary songwriter for indie-rock storytellers the Decemberists, sixteen-minute revenge epics about sailors swallowed by whales are just the tip of the iceberg for the Portland-based singer and guitarist. He’s also released a live solo album (enigmatically entitled Colin Meloy Sings Live!), a series of cover EPs featuring songs by artists ranging from Sam Cooke to Morrissey, a novella about the Replacements’ celebrated 1984 album Let It Be, and two children’s fantasy novels set in a fictional wilderness inspired by Forest Park that are illustrated by his wife, Carson Ellis (the third and for-now final installment comes out February 1).
John Roderick of the Long Winters opens.
