Win Tickets to Mark O'Connor & Friends at the Schnitz

The Grammy Award-winning violinist brings friends and family for An Appalachian Christmas on December 22.

By Matthew Schonfeld December 11, 2014

All Classical Portland is bringing back Grammy Award-winning violinist Mark O'Connor for the third year running as a part of his tour, An Appalachian Christmas. It may be marked as a celebration of Christmas, but O'Connor's style spans from bluegrass to classical, jazz to folk. His live show is a charming display of virtuosity, balancing between stirring classics and playful arrangements.

O'Connor, a Seattle native, has been an award-winning musician since his teenage years, with accolades on fiddle, guitar, and mandolin. He has played as a part of orchestras, string quartets, and jazz ensembles, with a resume that reaches from Yo Yo Ma to Bela Fleck, Wynton Marsalis and James Taylor.

An Appalachian Christmas features O'Connor, his friends, and family: banjo player Cia Cherryholmes, singer-songwriter and fiddler Carrie Rodriguez, bassist Kyle Kegerreis, guitarist Joe Smart, and Forrest, O'Connor's 26-year-old son, on mandolin and vocals.
