Jeff Daniels fans, be primed. Tickets go on sale tomorrow (April 10) for his Portland appearance at Mississippi Studios in November—and given the size-of-venue-versus-star-pulling-power algorithms involved, we recommend snagging one now. But don’t expect Daniels to be treading the boards in a reprise of his best Dumb and Dumber moments (alas for tongue-stuck-to-chairlift fans)—he’s in town with his son Ben Daniels’s band, playing his own songs. Think folk, think funny. Or in Daniels’s own words: “with a singular focus on the songs that continue to pour out of my pores, take my hand as I valiantly meander my way towards something yet to be defined and, more than likely, never will be.” Now if that ain’t an invitation. . .
Artists Rep has launched a New Play Development Program, with Luan Schooler at its head. Funded by an Oregon Community Foundation “Creative Heights” grant, it’s a two-year pilot program, during which time eight new plays will be commissioned. Four of the eight commissions will go to writers of color, four will be women, and one play will be for young adults. One Oregon writer will be given a special commission and have their play produced by Artists Rep. Schooler, who is Portland-based, has worked with Berkeley Rep, Juneau Alaska’s Perseverance Theatre, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Boom Arts. She officially takes the helm as Director of New Play Development and Dramaturgy on April 13.
Creative Mornings continues its Portland series with a talk from local entrepreneur Charlie Brown, founder and CEO of design firm Context Partners. Brown will be holding forth next Friday, April 17, on humility and how it’s embodied in creative leaders. Tickets on sale on Monday, April 13.

North Portland’s Disjecta has announced LA-based Chiara Giovando as its Curator-in-Residence for the 2015/16 exhibition season. Giovando, who has curated shows in cities as far apart as San Francisco and Oslo, Norway, was Co-Director and Curator at Human Resources LA prior to accepting the Disjecta appointment. She’ll lead the program into its fifth season, engaging with a range of artists for a series of shows in Disjecta’s 3,500-square-foot space. She takes over from Rachel Adams, the 2014/15 Curator-in-Residence.
