Calling All Bad Girls

If you’ve been channeling your inner Kim Kardashian of late, then Saturday could be your reality TV dream come true. The Oxygen network’s Bad Girls Club is holding an open casting call in Portland, and they’re looking for “independent, spirited, opinionated, outspoken or endlessly entertaining” women, who also happen to be sisters, or—better yet—twins. If this sounds like you, then get your Kardashian-shaped booty to Grand Central Bowling Lounge on SE Morrison between 10 am and 5pm. You're welcome, world.

Portland's Hawthorne Books has merged with Dzanc Books of Ann Arbor, Michigan, it was announced this week. According to a statement from the company, the merger "allows both houses to maintain their own individual editorial vision" while also working together on select projects. In addition to existing offices in Ann Arbor and New York, a publicity center for both presses will be headquarterd at Hawthorne's Portland office, and Rhonda Hughes will serve as Dzanc's director of marketing and publicity.

Television addicts, get ready: Portland writer David Shafer’s 2014 bestseller Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is headed to HBO, with Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment producing. According to reports this week, NoPo’s Shafer will serve as a co-executive producer on the half-hour show which HBO has put in development.

Find yourself at a loose end Saturday, possibly post casting call for Bad Girls Club (see above)? Then get to Eagles Lodge on South East Hawthorne for Action/Adventure’s annual fundraiser, titled "Inspired By." Justin Hocking, Nick Jaina, Hand2Mouth Theatre, Shaking the Tree, and many more writers and performers have signed up to participate in this action-and-adventuresome, flash-fiction showcase of readings, performances, comedy, music and visual art.
