Last-Minute Easter Plans

Still looking for a reason to go out to eat this Easter? We’ve got a guide for the procrastinating and spontaneous.

Portlanders are notorious for making last-minute plans. Maybe it’s the weather, or maybe it’s that we have so many great dining options every day that planning weeks out for a special event seems unnecessary. Whatever our excuses, chances are many of you still don’t know what you’re doing on Sunday (yeah, Easter is THIS SUNDAY. You’re welcome).

Last week I checked in with some of Portland’s top restaurants to see who’s serving up the ham and lamb specials, but here are a few more ideas for your weekend.

Join Din Din Supper Club’s chef Courtney Sproule for a five-course Easter brunch full of spring flavors and killer cocktails, beer, and wine. Bartender Kelley Swenson (formerly of June) will be shaking up top-notch beverage pairings, and dishes are set to include Bleu d’Auvergne mousse on brown bread with radishes fresh from the farmers’ market, wilted chicories with baked oyster and sunchoke gratin, rabbit with Pineau des Charentes cream and a duck egg omelette. It’s all going down 11 am on Sunday, April 8th at The Little Church (5138 NE 23rd Ave). To nab you’re seat ($55 per person) before they’re all gone, call 971-544-1350 or email [email protected].

Got kids? Head to the Yakuza Family Happy Hour and Easter Egg Hunt in the backyard Kuza Garden this Sunday! Kids get to hunt through Yakuza’s gorgeous patio garden for candy-filled eggs—weather permitting—then choose from a special menu packed with avocado or edamame ($1), noodles or rice ($2), with add-ons of chicken, pork or salmon ($3). For the grownups? Craft cocktails like the Whiskey #2 or Beet Martini and the full happy hour menu (including the decadent Yakuza burger) will help you get into the fun. Doors open at 5 pm, and the hunt begins at 5:30. Space is limited so make a reservation to snag a spot by calling 503-450-0893.

Another kid friendly option is the Easter Brunch Buffet at The Benson Hotel with commemorative photos with the Easter Bunny. From 9:30 am to 3 pm, the buffet will be overflowing with bone-in beef rib, whole roast lamb, Alsatian ham, a chilled seafood tower, seasonal salads, charcuterie, roasted Steelhead with local vegetables, and a whole dessert table with cinnamon-sugar "Benson Doughnuts", vanilla bean crème brulée, red velvet cake and more. The buffet is $55 for adults, $27.50 for children ages 6-12, and free for kids under five. Head to OpenTable or call 503-228-2000 for reservations.
