Portland's own Breakside Brewery, known for brewmaster Bed Edmund's flights of fancy in a pint glass, will debut its take on the White House homebrew on Monday, January 21st at the Northeast Dekum brewpub.
The only deviation from the presidential recipe? Instead of British hops and honey harvested from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Breakside is keeping it local with Oregon honey from Bee Local, Cascade hops, and American malts from Montana and Wisconsin.
According to the brewery, the beer is "dark gold in color with a fruity, honey-forward nose and a touch of citrus. Moderate mid-palate sweetness from American caramel malt, and a moderate body from the honey give way to a very dry finish. It clocks in at 5.5% alcohol and 24 IBUs."
