OPENING WEEK

Downtown Kure Juice Bar Opens on SW Taylor

After two years slinging smoothies and juice from a cart on SE Hawthorne, Nate Higgins and Nick Armour have launched a brick-and-mortar to satisfy Portland's fruit and veg cravings.

Here's some news fresh out of the juicer: Nick Armour and Nate Higgins' popular southeast smoothie and bowl cart Kure has sprouted a brick-and-mortar location across the river. Located in the former Javaman space on SW Taylor and 5th, Kure Juice Bar's new space offers the juicery's full line of smoothies, freshly squeezed cold and hot juices, healthy snacks, and bowls packed with enough superfoods to [k]ure anything that ails you.

The pair's cart-bound venture launched in 2011, crafting custom smoothies and juices out of a tin shed on Hawthorne with a focus on local produce. In an earlier Eat Beat interview, Higgins reported that 90 percent of his ingredients were grown in Oregon, and that commitment continues at the new location.

Though the new downtown juice bar has less seating that it's cart-bound cousin on the eastside (read: none), Kure's second space caters to the on-the-go workaday crowds with earlier hours and easy-to-digest menus. Walk into new bar and look up—you'll find a slimmed-down version of the Kure menu featuring the brand's best sellers for quick selection.

Want more options? Full menus of organic juices, acai bowls, salads, shots, smoothies, and power-up additions are available on the wall to your left. The juice bar also stocks locally-made gluten free, raw, and organic "balls" (like the Omega Bomb with sunflower seeds and cocoa), veggie wraps, and dried mango. Still stumped? The smiling faces behind the bar are more than willing to whip you up something special, navigate your dietary restrictions, or recommend a kure-all for your fresh produce cravings.
