Bistro Marquee's Headlining Plates

Former Screen Door chef Rick Widmayer crafts down-home classics (and a new fried chicken recipe) on SW Market.

Leslie Palmer and Gary Kneski, the husband-and-wife team behind Southwest Portland's eight-year-old Thirst Bistro, are giving the former Carafe Bistro/Market Restaurant space another go.

Bistro Marquee opened on May 20, and Palmer and Kneski are keeping things simple: catering to the neighborhood by offering approachable fare from former Screen Door and Mother’s Bistro chef Rick Widmayer, a loaded Happy Hour, prix fixe menus on show nights at the neighboring Keller Auditorium, and a pretty great burger.

Here's what to expect at the just-opened eatery:

  • Familiar farm names on the menu, including Deep Roots Farm, Kiyokawa Orchards, Viridian Farms, DeNoble’s Farm, and Creative Growers.
  • Wine and beer growlers to go, tapping into local wineries and breweries as well as cocktails shaken with craft spirits.
  • Prix fixe, themed dinner menus (and free valet parking) on show nights. Check out the plates available for this week's Rock of Ages show—think O Sherrie Salmon and Twisted Sister cocktails.
  • Approachable and affordable dishes for lunch, dinner, and Happy Hour. Check out some of the offerings by clicking through to our slideshow above.
